Curious about therapy?
Here’s how it works

Our (approachable!) Approach

1.

Reach out

You’ll tell us your goals, and we’ll discuss whether PLC can help you achieve them. Then we’ll schedule you for your first therapy session to meet your therapy match.

2.

Meet us

Come in for your first therapy session. Don’t be nervous — we’re totally cool, we promise.

3.

Keep going

Liked your first session? Let’s do it again! We’ll come up with a plan for your goals, and continue until you’ve met them.

“...To be frank, I have become quite skeptical about the western medicine model making any significant impact with mental health. With that being said, talk therapy has proven the test of time, so here I am. Ready to start on another journey of self care. I was super drawn to your page and I love the vibe. Hoping you have space for a new client!”

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never been to therapy. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. Everyone needs help now and then! Talking to someone is one of the best ways to get it. You already have strengths you’ve used to cope with issues in the past — and for whatever reason, they’re just not working right now. In our work together, we’ll help you identify what those strengths are and how to implement them again now.

How does therapy work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, each therapy session will be different depending on the individual. At Paula Lain Counseling, we tailor our therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

How long will therapy take for me?

Because everyone has unique circumstances, we can’t say for certain how long your therapy journey may last. The length of time it can take to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors driving you to seek therapy in the first place.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my friends or family?

A trained mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way — teach you new skills, show you different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Plus, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing your business.” And, if your situation provokes a lot of negative emotion, confiding in a friend or family member poses the risk that once you feel better, you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication alone cannot solve all issues. All medication does is treat the symptoms, whereas therapy is designed to explore the root of the issue, dig deep into your behavior, and teach you strategies that can help you accomplish your goals.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

We are so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions! Your active participation is crucial to your success. After all, we see you for only one session a week. It’s the work you do outside of our sessions that will really help you see the personal growth you desire.

It’s time to become your most authentic self.
